GEMINI CDS Ban Relay 1.9.2
Hi Everybody !
With this notecard I want to communicate my perception about the “GEMINI CDS Ban Relay 1.9.2″.
You find it in xstreet :
https://www.xstreetsl.coLookm/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=2138424
The Video Link is not included in the notecard from Daemonika Nightfire and included from the Creator of this Blogpost Holger Gilruth to help show the failures of the System and show that it is not working at all
The basic concept of this banning system is not bad, but the proceeding and the reasons the
system is basing on is in no way legitimate.
The system is to be to detect if an avatar uses a “harmfull-viewer” (Copybot) and – if true – to eject
the avatar immediately from the sim and to put it on a bann list.
The system communicates additionally these caught avatars to an external server where all are
listet. The sim owner who uses this sytem on his sim banns automatically this avatar who enters
his sim as well.
Up to this point it is OK.
Now the reasons why there are so many protests and Abuse Reports against this system:
1.
The ban relay works with an index of names which was created and loaded on the server several
weeks before the system was published. It was created under the arbitrary assumption that
everybody who was registered as a user of such a viewer has made illegal copies of third party
property.
Quotation of Skills Hak about Neil Life:
[19:56] Skills Hak: I don’t trust somebody who uses it.
[19:56] Skills Hak: it’s like a live arm
The curious is the following : Some days ago I was informed, that you only can recognize Neil Life
if you use it yourself. My question is : Why isn’t Skills Hak on the list ?
As I said : All avatars on the list are unexceptional because of wild guesses, without any evidence
are denunciated as CopyBots.
2.
This avatar list is a mess , because never happened a verifying if the avatar concerned made an
illegal copy or not.
Even worse: All avatars had been blacklisted overall and without exception who used a legal bot
or who tested an alternative viewer and were “caught” by Skills Hak’s brilliant tool.
Thereby occurs the following problem :
No one who is listed wrongly has the possibility ever to be deleted from the list.
Quotation of Skills Hak: People who use Neil Life will be banned, no discussion.
Even Linden Lab refers back to the originator, you should argue with him.
The originator, Gemini , refuses to delete ever somebody from the list.
Gemini proceed even :
In the discussion forum:
https://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=discussions&ItemID=2138424
many people protested and the germans were referred as “Harz IV CopyBotter Brigade”which is
a barefaced defamation.
A new second avatar protested too because his first avatar had been registered in the list and was
banned. Gemini answered very arrogant :
Quotation : : “Hello, brand new account with blank profile that got caught on our system some days ago.”
We know very well where this defamation is leading to !
3.
Evidently it seems as if this system ist not able to detect a new “harmfull viewer”.
On YouTube you could watch videos where certain people copied all what they wanted in SL with
harmfull viewers, without being caught by Skills Hak.
These videos are deleted in the meantime : This video is canceled because of the oiginator
entitlement of XXXXXXXXXXX.
I reason that only avatars are banned whose name is already on the existing list.
The evil is the following : All avatars on this list are banned, regardless which viewer will be used
on the relevant sim. Even if you use the Linden- or Emerald viewer, you are banned.
No sim owner who uses this system is able to relate if the banned avatar used a harmfull viewer or
was already listed before the system started.
I personally don’t see no reason at all to bann an avatar using a harmfull viewer, he cannot keep out
of mischief with it.
4.
For all I know, Linden Labs decided to prohibit the access of unregistered and/or illegal viewers to
Second Life. This means that these viewers cannot log on to Second Life in the future. I reason that
this system is needless soon.
Closing words :
I’m not bothered a bit if someone is banned because of illegal activities. Whereupon a following
abuse report supersede the banning, because the avatar isn’t able to log on to Second Life afterwards.
But I cannot approve that people are defamed and pigeonholed without any evidence of delinquency.
All Americans have the right to buy a weapon, does this mean unavoidable that it will be used by everyone?
Sincerely yours

The system Skills has is flawed. I don’t care who under the sun tries to tell me different. I am on the so called “third grade” blacklist for visiting a sim with just the EMERALD viewer. Know what? I don’t give a rats ass. I can buy stuff from another vendor who isn’t stupid enough to believe that Skills is infallible. Last time I checked, only the Pope held that distinction.
A friend of mine is a builder who uses a copybot viewer to build and export her creations on a STANDALONE opensim, then imports them into SL. Should she be on the good ol boys list too?
